Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer McCann reiterated the importance of the inclusion of women in all aspects of peacebuilding and decision making across the island.
Speaking at the launch of a Women in Peacebuilding guidance report informed by the views of 800 women who lived through conflict and conflict resolution the West Belfast MLA said;
"Women play an invaluable role in building peace and stability in Ireland and in countries across the world.
"Very often their role goes unrecognised but all of us see the difference they make on a daily basis whether in political, public or community life.
"We all have a responsibility to challenge gender inequality and ensure the active and equal participation of women in all spheres of life.
"That includes removing the barriers and attitudes that result in their underrepresentation in political and public life.
"I believe the continued contribution that women make will encourage more young women to come forward into those roles."
