Sinn Féin MLA and health committee chair Maeve McLaughlin has said action is needed to deal with problems in the Northern Trust.
Speaking after it was revealed that 49 serious adverse incidents had taken place in the Northern Trust in two months, the Foyle MLA said;
"The problems within the Northern Trust area, particularly within accident and emergency departments, have been well documented.
"This has flagged up the problems within the entire health system.
"What happens in accident and emergency departments is only the shop window to the wider health service.
"There needs to be a clear and concerted effort to tackle these problems. We have had review and review into these issues and now it is time for action.
"We also need to make sure that when serious incidents do occur that families are informed which has not always been the case."
