Sinn Féin councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile has expressed disappointment at a Court of Appeal ruling on PSNI inaction in the Short Strand area during loyalist flag protests.
Ó Donnghaile was speaking after the PSNI won an appeal against a previous judgement that it had failed to uphold the European Convention on Human Rights during loyalist flag protests.
The Short Strand councillor said:
"It is disappointing that the appeal court has overturned its initial judgement that the PSNI had 'facilitated illegal and sometimes violent" loyalist parades past the Short Strand.
"An appeal will now be lodged against this decision.
"The people of the Short Strand were subjected to months of intimidation by illegal loyalist marches, which were facilitated by the PSNI.
"Sinn Féin consistently raised these issues with the PSNI both at local and leadership level.
"We will continue to support the residents to ensure they get the type of policing they are entitled to."
