Ó Donnghaile slams erection of KKK flag

1 July, 2014

Sinn Féin Councillor for Pottinger in East Belfast, Niall Ó Donnghaile, has slammed the erection of a KKK flag in East Belfast.

Speaking today Cllr Ó Donnghaile said:

“The erection of a Klu Klux Klan flag in East Belfast is to be condemned outright. This is a blatantly racist organisation and the flying of this flag is all the more sinister given the spate of recent racist attacks and intimidation against families in this part of the city.

“I welcome the fact that this flag has now been removed but we cannot allow the conditions to exist for people and organisations with clearly racist motivations to believe that it is ok to fly this flag from a public place.

“We must all be be united in our unambiguous opposition to racism and show leadership at all levels across our society.”
