Sinn Féin MLA Caitríona Ruane has said fisheries issues must be considered on an all-Ireland basis.
Speaking after Sinn Féín MEP Liadh Ní Riada was appointed as the only Irish representative on the EU Fisheries Committee at the European Parliament this week, the South Down MLA said;
"I welcome the fact that my party colleague Liadh Ní Riada has been appointed to the EU Fisheries Committee.
"She will be a strong advocate for our fisheries communities in Europe.
"I particularly welcome her commitment to bring an all-Ireland approach to issues around the development and defence of our fishing industry.
"Our fishing communities have a right to make a decent living and they deserve a reasonable income. They are entitled to a fair deal from the European Union in terms of quotas."
