Sinn Féin Councillors call on City Manager to overturn concert decision

4 July, 2014

The Sinn Féin group leader on Dublin City Council, Councillor Séamas McGrattan, has called on the Dublin City Manager to intervene and reverse the decision not to allow the five Garth Brooks concerts go ahead in Croke Park this summer.

Councillor Séamas McGrattan said;

“The whole process has been a mess. There has been a breakdown in communication and trust between the local community and Croke Park going back over a number of years but the fans who bought tickets should not be the losers in this. There are no winners but there are clearly losers. The City of Dublin also loses out at a time where business needs a boost.

“Sinn Féin has been engaged in the discussions between the community and Croke Park from the beginning and had hoped that a compromise between both could have been reached. We have been in discussions with locals and had attended all the consultation meetings.

“I'm asking the City Manager Mr Keegan to intervene in the interest of the City and allow the concerts go ahead. The €500,000 earmarked under the Mulvey report, which was welcomed by Sinn Féin, would be a huge boost to the local community.

“If the manager does not reverse his decision Sinn Féin will explore the option of using section 140 of the Local Government Act to overturn the decision with the support of two thirds of the City Councillors.”
