Shooting in North Belfast only adding to tension

7 July, 2014 - by Gerry Kelly

Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly has said that the shooting of a young man in North Belfast achieved nothing apart from adding to the current tension within the local community.

 Mr Kelly said,

“The shooting of a young man last night has to be condemned as it has only added to local tensions within the local community.

“These attacks achieve nothing and are counterproductive in resolving issues within our community.

“At a time when the community is standing together against the ongoing marching tensions we see an unrepresentative group creating division.

“The vast majority of people in our community are opposed to these attacks on our young people and I call on those behind them to desist immediately from their activities.” ENDS/CRÍOCH
