Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has urged Environment Minister, Mark H Durkan and Employment Minister Stephen Farry to work with those in the communication sector and other SMEs to maximise the opportunities presented by the EU’s “Green Action Plan (GAP) for SMEs” which will enable them to turn environmental challenges into business opportunities.”
Martina Anderson said:
“This Action Plan adopted by the European Commission presents a series of actions proposed at European level to help SMEs exploit the business opportunities presented by the transition to a green economy.
“The European Council identified a strong competitive industrial base in terms of both production and investment as a key driver for economic growth and jobs.”
European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion László Andor said:
“The structural shift towards a green and resource-efficient economy is already bringing about fundamental changes across all sectors. It is an opportunity to generate high quality environmentally-friendly jobs, while securing the sustainable well-being of future generations and contributing to recovery from the economic crisis.”
Ms Anderson concluded:
“I am urging Mark H Durkan and Stephen Farry to exploit fully the opportunity that these programmes present and to work pro-actively with those in communications and SMEs to assist them in turning environmental challenges posed by the move to green energy into opportunities.”
