Fitting that Bobby Sands' commitment to Irish is recognised

8 July, 2014 - by Pat Sheehan

Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has said it is fitting that Bobby Sands' contribution to the Irish language should be remembered and honoured.

The West Belfast MLA said;

"Bobby Stands lived in Twinbrook and is regarded as a hero by the community in the area.

"In the local community and in Long Kesh Bobby was heavily involved in the promotion and development of the Irish language.

"He led education programmes in Long Kesh, teaching Irish to his comrades and wrote extensively about the growth of the language.

"It is entirely fitting that his commitment to Irish is recognised through this Gaeltacht bursary.

"I congratulate the two young students from St Colm's High School in Twinbrook and wish them well in their Gaeltacht experience."
