Sinn Féin Councillor Brenda Chivers has welcomed the removal of election posters from a bonfire in Limavady.
Speaking today Cllr Chivers said:
“These election posters should never have appeared on the bonfire in the first place. We hear of the 12th of July being about cultural expression however putting posters and sectarian slogans on bonfires only incites hatred.
“A proactive approach by the PSNI and council officials has seen the removal of these posters and that is to be welcomed.
“I would now urge a similar approach across the north of Ireland to other bonfires displaying such images in order that this practice is stamped out.”
