Sinn Féin backs striking public sector workers – McCann

10 July, 2014 - by Jennifer McCann

Sinn Féin MLA Jennifer McCann has said public sector workers are entitled to a living wage.

Speaking as public sector workers took part in strike action today, the West Belfast MLA said;

"Workers across the North are struggling to make ends meet and pay bills.

"Low paid workers in particular have been badly hit as salaries have not kept up with rises in the cost of living.

"Many frontline public sector workers, who provide essential services to local communities, are among the lowest paid.

"Workers are entitled to a decent wage and I joined strikers at picket lines in Belfast this morning.

"Sinn Féin has repeatedly called for the introduction of a living wage, which recognises the rise in the cost of living and we will continue to do so."
