Sinn Féin holding Belfast vigil in solidarity with Palestine – McShane
Sinn Féin’s Mairead Farrell Republican Youth Group will be holding a Belfast-wide solidarity vigil for the people of Palestine tonight at the site of the old Andersonstown RUC barracks.
The vigil will run from 7.00pm to 9.00pm
Speaking ahead of the event Eoin McShane chair of the MFRYC said:
“The solidarity vigil is an opportunity to show our support of the people of Palestine and in particular those in Gaza who are suffering an onslaught from an overwhelming Israeli military.
“This will be part of a series of rallies held by Sinn Féin, including Dublin and Derry, joining thousands who are protesting across the globe.
“We have seen hundreds of strikes from fighter jets and the Israeli navy on Gaza which has resulted in 73 deaths so far and over 500 Palestinians injured.
“This is in one of the most densely populated areas in the world and is further destroying the lives of those living under an already oppressive blockade.
“What we need to see now is an immediate ceasefire from all sides and international pressure being brought to bear on Israel to recognise the Palestinian unity government and to engage in immediate dialogue.”
