Responding to suggestions that the Taoiseach, Enda Kenny will
determine junior ministry appointments on the basis of how they might impact on
Sinn Féin, Party Leader Gerry Adams said:
“The Local Government and European elections in May confirmed that ever increasing numbers of citizens are responding to Sinn Féin's message that there is fairer way to make necessary deficit adjustments while protecting vital public services and social supports.
“That the Taoiseach would determine junior Ministries on how they might impact on Sinn Féin merely highlights the fact that the Government still doesn't get the message delivered by the voters.
“Sinn Féin is not the problem. It is that citizens have rejected the Government's agenda of relentless austerity and the unfair way it is penalising hardworking families and vulnerable people.
“It would suit Mr Kenny better to concentrate on changing the disastrous political direction his Government is pursuing than obsessing about the increasing electoral popularity of Sinn Féin.”
