Sinn Féin Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh has raised concerns for the on-going quality of care for patients in light of a HIQA investigation into a private nursing home in Connemara.
Senator Ó Clochartaigh said:
“A couple of whistleblowers have brought to my attention that a HIQA investigation is underway into a Private Nursing Home in Connemara - Àras Cois Fharraige.
“I understand that they have been suspended on foot of bringing allegations to HIQA.
“My concerns are for the ongoing quality of care for patients
“I called on the Minister of Health to inquire as to the nature and scope of the investigation to ensure the highest proper standards are in place.
“I also questioned why the 'whistleblowers' have been suspended in light of the fact that the legislation protecting them came into force this week.
“I understand that complaints have been made by staff and family members.
“I am very concerned that the Minister needs to act quickly to ensure that patient care is prioritised and that the rights of all parties in this are upheld fully.”
