Sinn Féin MLA Caitríona Ruane has encouraged people to attend the Belfast Pride Festival parade on Saturday.Speaking ahead of the parade through the city centre, Ms Ruane said;
"The annual Belfast Pride parade is a wonderful occasion that has become a real fixture in the city's calendar."It is a fantastic celebration of equality, diversity and tolerance.
"The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community make a huge contribution to our society and the Belfast Pride Festival includes a wide range of events recognising that as well as raising awareness of many important issues
"Sadly, there are still homophobia in our society and the Pride festival offers everyone a chance to stand in solidarity with the LGBT community and show our rejection of such narrow-mindedness.
"I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and a take part in the parade which will begin at Custom Square at 2pm on Saturday."
