Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has again challenged Irish government policy on the crisis in Gaza. Speaking earlier today Gerry Adams said:
“The resignation of the British Government Minister Sayeeda Warsi in protest at her government’s policy on Palestine is in marked contrast to the shameful policy of the Irish government. So too are the French President’s remarks made at the WW1 commemoration in Belgium yesterday.
“The Taoiseach’s approach and the Tanaiste’s silence are indefensible. This morning’s 72 hour ceasefire is welcome but the people of that region have been here before. Unless the international community upholds international law the Peace Process in the Middle East cannot succeed. The Irish government’s despicable policy will have contributed to that failure.
“Sayeeda Warsi has shown considerable courage. The Taoiseach should follow her example and speak out clearly in defence of the people of Gaza and of international law”.
