Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly has welcomed a protocol drawn up by the Apprentice Boys on management of loyal order parades.
Speaking after the Apprentice Boys of Derry launched 'The Maiden City Accord,' the North Belfast MLA said;
"I broadly welcome this local agreement on the management of loyal order parades from the Apprentice Boys.
"It outlines the responsibilities of parade organisers, which was an issue we had discussed during the Haass process.
"The requirement to abide by lawful decisions regarding flags and emblems is also welcome.
"It also outlines the requirement for public liability insurance for bands and parades.
"While these and other elements of the accord are to be welcomed, it does require some development.
"Local dialogue is key to resolving the remaining issues around contentious parades and that needs to include dialogue with nationalist and republican residents.
"In Derry, where this accord comes from, dialogue between the Apprentice Boys and residents has transformed the parading situation.
"This accord now needs to be endorsed and adopted by other areas across the North."
