21 August, 2014 - by Carál Ní Chuilín

Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ní Chuilín said today a shooting incident in the Ballysillan area was a worrying escalation of tensions in loyalist areas of North Belfast.

Speaking after a man in his 40s was shot in the leg in the Wallasey Park area, Carál Ní Chuilín said:

"This is the latest of in a series of incidents in North Belfast over recent weeks involving loyalists.

"The fact that someone has now been shot is a worrying development.

"The PSNI needs to all in its power to deal with those behind this cycle of violence.

"I’m calling for Unionist leaders and community activists to make every effort to bring this cycle of violence to an end before someone is seriously injured or someone loses their life.”
