Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer Mc Cann joined thousands of people celebrating cultural diversity at the Belfast Mela - Festival of World Cultures today.
Speaking the event which has attracted up to 60,000 visitors from 30 different countries over the past four years, the West Belfast MLA said;
"Recently there has been an upsurge in racist attacks but we have also had thousands of people came out onto the streets to condemn those attacks.
"Racism and intolerance must be challenged no matter where they arise.
"Today thousands of people have come together at Belfast Mela in an atmosphere of fun and creativity to celebrate diversity.
"We must continue to work together to tackle racial and other forms of inequality and build a fair and equal society where everyone is accepted."
