Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has said full fiscal powers should be transferred to the Assembly.
Speaking after unionists called for welfare powers to be handed back to Westminster, the Sinn Féin economic spokesperson said;
"Unionists appear to want the trappings of power but not the responsibility that comes with it.
"Instead of calling for welfare powers to be sent back to Westminster, unionists should be joining with us and other parties in presenting a united front to the British government to oppose welfare cuts.
"People here are at the mercy of an unaccountable Tory-led government determined to introduce swingeing cuts which would penalise the poor.
"The financial powers currently retained by Westminster should be transferred to the Executive.
"Full fiscal powers need to be in the hands of locally elected, accountable public representatives who are not afraid to make decisions."
