Caithfear aitheantas ceart a thabhairt don Ghaeilge-Ní Riada

3 September, 2014 - by Liadh Ní Riada MEP

I rith cruinniú coiste an Bhuiséad sa Pharlaimint inniu mhol Liadh Ní Riada, feisire Eorpa Shinn Féin Deisceart, gur cóir aitheantas ceart a thabhairt don Ghaeilge.

Agus í ag labhairt i rith an cruinniú coiste dúirt sí gur cúis áifeála di nach raibh sí in ann a teanga dúchais a úsáid.

"Fuair an Ghaeilge stádas iomlán mar Theanga Oifigiúil agus Oibre siar i 2007 ach fós, níl aon seirbhísí ateangaireachta ar fáil d´úsáid an teanga laistigh de chruinnithe, coistí, nó seisiún iomlánach sa Pharlaimint", a deir Liadh Ní Riada.

"Tá leasaithe curtha isteach agam sa Bhuiséad agus má ghlacfar leo, beidh seirbhís ateangaireachta ar fáil dóibh siúd a bhfuil ag iarraidh an Ghaeilge a úsáid, mar aon le poist a chruthú d´áistritheoirí Éireannach", de réir Ní Riada.

Speaking during a Budget committee meeting in the Parliament today, Sinn Féin MEP for Ireland South, Liadh Ní Riada advocated for proper recognition be given to the Irish language.

Speaking during the committee she stated how it was regrettable that she could not use her native language due to the fact that there was no interpretive service available and up to now there has been no political will from other Irish MEPs to insist on these essential services that are a fundamental right.

"The Irish language got full Official and Working Language status back in 2007 but 10 years later there is still no Irish language interpreter available during meetings, committees, or plenary sessions in the Parliament", said Liadh Ní Riada.

"I have submitted amendments to the Budget and if they are accepted, an interpretive service will be available to those people who want to conduct their business through Irish and jobs will be created for Irish language translators", said Ní Riada.
