Inismór ferry must not cease operation - Ferris and Ó Clochartaigh

17 October, 2014 - by Martin Ferris TD, Trevor Ó Clochartaigh

After making contact with people living on Inismór on the Aran Islands today, Sinn Féin deputy Martin Ferris has said he will attempt to raise the matter of a ferry service to the island under Topical Issues in the Dáil on Tuesday.

Deputy Ferris said:

“The ferry service to Inismór is set to end on the first of November and the minister must intervene to stop this.

“To allow the ferry service to end is like blocking a road for the people living on the island. It cannot happen and action must be taken immediately.

Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh added that the prospect of no ferry service to Inismór over the winter is unthinkable.

“School students, people going to hospital appointments and other vital trips to the mainland depend on the ferry. It is a basic service and Minister McHugh must intervene immediately to ensure it will not cease operation.”
