Initial job losses blow to local economy - Maskey

30 June, 2015 - by Paul Maskey

Sinn Féin MP for West Belfast Paul Maskey has stated that the loss of 24 jobs from the company Initial in West Belfast is a blow for the local economy.

Speaking today Mr Maskey said:

“The loss of 24 jobs from west Belfast with people being made redundant at Initial, part of the Rentokil Initial group, is a blow for the local economy.

“I have spoke with employees, some of whom have worked for nearly 20 years with the firm and they are devastated.

“We heard this going back last month and I had arranged meetings on site with some of the employees, members of the trade unions and I met with the senior management of Initial to see as well, what we could do to try and protect these jobs, to see if they could be relocated,

“Following a consultation period it is now evident that 24 jobs will unfortunately be going. I think it’s a big blow for west Belfast but a bigger blow for the employees themselves.”
