Boyle presents public petition in support of Bellgray Nursing Home

13 June, 2016 - by Michaela Boyle

Sinn Féin MLA Michaela Boyle today presented a public petition before the Assembly in support of the campaign to keep open Bellgray Nursing Home in Newtownstewart.

The West Tyrone MLA said;

"When Apex Housing Association announced in April the decision to close Bellgray Nursing Home it caused a great deal of concern for the 29 residents, their families and staff at the home.

"More than 1,000 people have signed a public petition calling for the home to remain open.

"Not only would the closure of the home have a huge impact on the lives of the residents and their families but it would also result in job losses in the area.

"I met today with representatives of trade unions and campaigners for Bellgray Nursing home and presented the petition to the Assembly.

"I also raised the matter with my colleague, health minister Michelle O'Neill and asked her to speak to Apex and the Western Trust to see if the decision to close the home can be reviewed so the residents can continue to live in the home."
