Caterpillar workers need clarity - Maskey

1 September, 2016 - by Paul Maskey

Sinn Féin's Paul Maskey has said that Caterpillar workers need clarity in the wake of the announcement that up to 250 jobs are to be lost and that the Monkstown plant is to close.

The West Belfast MP said:

"It is a relief to the people of West Belfast that the plant in Springvale is to remain open but today's announcement has raised uncertainty.

"News that up to 250 jobs are to be lost and the closure of the Monkstown plant is a blow to the staff and their families, as well as the economy in the north.

"Workers need clarity over what the planned changes throughout the company will entail.

"I will continue to work alongside employees and government agencies to ensure that workers are kept up-to-date with any developments."
