McCartney welcomes admission that Manus Deery was innocent

21 November, 2016 - by Raymond McCartney

Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has welcomed an admission from the British Ministry of Defence that 15-year-old Manus Deery who was shot dead in 1972 was innocent.

The Foyle MLA said;

"I welcome the admission from the British Ministry of Defence and the PSNI that Manus Deery was innocent, was not carrying a weapon and that his killing breached guidelines.

"This is a 15-year-old boy who was shot dead by British soldiers as he chatted with friends.

"What came out in court today is what the people of Derry have known for 44 years.

"The Deery family are entitled to the truth about the killing of Manus and hopefully today's admission will help them in their continuing campaign for justice."
