Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ní Chuilin said that mental health is a priority for Sinn Féin across the island.

The North Belfast MLA who hosted a Mental Health and Suicide Prevention meeting at the Duncairn Centre, Belfast last night said:

“Mental health is a priority for Sinn Féin across the island.

“I welcome the fact that not long into her post, my party colleague and Health Minister Michelle O’Neill has stated that she will be a champion for mental health and we will assist her anyway we can so that provisions are put in place.

“There are a lot of families across the island who have been bereaved through suicide, families who are trying to support loved ones struggling with poor mental health and people who have worked and campaigned for greater investment in mental health services.

“Sinn Féin will continue to give support to people on this issue and campaign for the appropriate supports and interventions.

“We support the call for a safe place for people to go to in crisis and respect the valuable work undertaken on suicide prevention and better mental health support."
