People of North see future in Europe - Maskey

26 February, 2017 - by Alex Maskey

Sinn Féin's Alex Maskey has said supporters of leaving the EU have aligned themselves with UKIP, the DUP and the hard right of the British Tory party.

Alex Maskey said:

"The people of the north voted to see their future in Europe.

"By supporting the leave campaign People Before Profit aligned themselves with UKIP, the DUP and the hard right of the British Tory Party.

"In the Assembly and just last week in the Dáil they voted in line with the DUP and British Tories by refusing to support the campaign for designated status for the North within the EU.

"As Irish republicans we do not want to see any border on the island; hard, soft, British or European.

"Sinn Féin is on a diplomatic offensive across Europe to support our case for designated special status within the EU and we are calling on all parties, and the Irish government to get behind that to give effect to the vote of the people."
