More arrogance from DUP on Irish language - Ní Chuilín

27 February, 2017 - by Carál Ní Chuilín

Sinn Féin's Carál Ní Chuilín has said Nigel Dodds’ criticisms of Irish language funding is yet another example of DUP arrogance and disrespect.

Carál Ní Chuilín said:

"Once again the DUP's contempt for the Irish language and identity has been exposed with Nigel Dodds' criticism of funding for Irish language projects, including the education of children in schools.

"His remarks highlight the arrogance we have seen from the DUP on the Irish language and a range of other issues.

"It also underscores the need for an Irish language act to protect the rights of Irish speakers.

"The call by the DUP for an audit of how much funding goes to different cultural identities is yet another example of the DUP attempting to sectarianise this campaign.

"The Irish language belongs to everyone and threatens no one."
