Government and Minister for Transport need to wake up and address public transport crisis – Munster
Sinn Féin spokesperson for Transport Imelda Munster TD has today criticised Minister for Transport Shane Ross for his continued inaction on the Bus Éireann strike, as Dart, Dublin Bus and commuter train services were affected by strike action this morning.
Deputy Munster said:
“Minister Ross has been warned continuously about the threat of the strike affecting other CIÉ companies, so he cannot feign surprise at this morning’s events. This strike is only heading one way if he continues to wash his hands of the crisis.
“We need to invest in public transport and protect this vital service which so many people rely on. Instead, Minister Ross is going down the road of outsourcing, privatisation, and a race to the bottom for workers’ rights. This won’t wash with the public.
“The Taoiseach and Government need to step in and tell Minister Ross to step up to the plate and do his job. His pay is many times that earned by Bus Éireann workers, and it’s time he worked for it.”
