Sinn Féin welcomes conclusion of Citizens’ Assembly deliberations on eighth amendment – O’Reilly
Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Louise O’Reilly TD has welcomed the conclusion of the Citizens’ Assembly deliberations on the eighth amendment.
Deputy O’Reilly urged the convening of the select Oireachtas committee to deliberate on the recommendations in a speedy manner.
The Dublin Fingal said:
“The Citizens’ Assembly has now concluded and we commend the members for their work.
“We have not been behind the door in criticising the delay tactics of the Government on this issue and indeed, we opposed the setting up of the Citizens’ Assembly from its outset. However, we now have a set of recommendations from the assembly and there should be no more delays.
“It is now the duty of the Oireachtas and the select committee, on which Jonathan O'Brien and I will represent Sinn Féin, to act with urgency and put this issue to a referendum.
“The recommendations show there is a clear appetite for reform and change of the current situation regarding access to terminations. Sinn Féin’s position is clear. We want repeal and enact; repeal the eighth and enact legislation on the grounds of rape, incest, and fatal foetal abnormality.”
