Munster welcomes Committee approval for Minister Ross to appear regarding Chief Executives’ contracts
Sinn Féin spokesperson for Transport Imelda Munster TD has today welcomed the decision of the Joint Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Sport to accept her request to invite Minister Shane Ross before the Committee to answer questions on Chief Executives of semi-State boards remaining in their posts longer than the seven year limit recommended in government guidelines.
Deputy Munster said:
“I wrote to the Committee last week to request that Minister Ross appear before the Committee to explain the situation. Currently, there are seven Chief Executives in posts under the remit of the Department of Transport for longer than the seven years recommended by government guidelines. Some of these Chief Executives are on contracts of indefinite duration, which is a direct contradiction of government policy.
“It was agreed by the Committee members that the Minister would come before the Committee to answer questions on this matter, and we are hopeful that he will appear before us next week.
“It is important that we establish whether the Minister was even aware that this problem is rife within his own department, given how outspoken he has been previously on these matters.” ENDS
