Ireland 2023 Rugby World Cup bid ‘a huge opportunity for Ireland’ – Munster
Sinn Féin TD and spokesperson for Sport Imelda Munster has wished the IRFU the best of luck as they enter their bid to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
The Louth TD said:
“Ireland has some stiff opposition in their bid to host the Rugby World as France and South Africa are also to compete for the honour. Ireland has never hosted a tournament on the scale of the World Cup and I think that it is time for this sports mad nation to show what we have to offer on the world stage.
“And not just would be a source of immense pride for the Irish sporting community, the tournament could be worth close to €1billion to the Irish economy and would be a brilliant showcase for tourism.
“In the coming weeks, the 11 Lions from Ireland will take to the pitch in New Zealand and I would also like to take the opportunity to wish them the best and hope for a great result following the historic day for Ireland in Soldier Field last November.”
