Ó Muilleoir backs SureStart monies
Sinn Féin MLA Máirtín Ó Muilleoir spoke today with the Permanent Secretary at the Department of Education to seek assurances about the continued employment of workers in the South Belfast SureStart scheme who have received protective notice letters.
“I am confident that monies will continue to flow after July to enable these protective notices to be lifted as soon as possible. SureStart does magnificent work across our community and it’s viability and success is a priority for me.
“However, even if the protective notices are lifted, no one should assume that the threat of austerity, now championed by the DUP-Tory alliance in Westminster, does not remain.
"Any attempt in the time ahead by the Tory-DUP tag-team to impose cuts on SureStart or indeed any other front-line education services such as school uniform grants will not be tolerated by the community of South Belfast or by Sinn Féin."
