Discussion needed to ensure roads are safe for all -McGuigan

13 July, 2017 - by Philip McGuigan

Sinn Féin MLA Philip McGuigan has said a mature and rational discussion is needed to ensure all who use our roads are kept safe. The North Antrim MLA said:"There is a growing number of our population who are taking to the roads to cycle."This is something to be encouraged and promoted but we must ensure that our roads are a safe place for all road users.

"As someone who cycles regularly I am unfortunately all too aware of the potential dangers to cyclists and other non vehicular road users.

"I think we need to look at current attitudes and have a mature, rational discussion and perhaps legislative changes to our Highway Code to help reduce the risks and keep us all safe"

"I had previously submitted a motion before the Assembly on this subject and this is something worth pursuing."
