Tiomantas i leith Forbairt Réigiúnach caite uaidh ag an Rialtas - Ó Clochartaigh

13 July, 2017 - by Trevor Ó Clochartaigh

Cháin Seanadóir Shinn Féin Trevor Ó Clochartaigh an bealach fánach a gcaitheann an Rialtas le forbairt réigiúnach agus tuath na hÉireann.Léirigh sé go mbraitheann na daoine atá ag plé go díreach le tioncnaimh forbartha réigúnaí trína chéile maidir leis an síorathrú a tharlaíonn sna Ranna a mbíonn siad ag plé leo.
Ag labhairt do i rith díospóireachta sa Seanad maidir le ranna Rialtais a atheagrú dúirt An Seanadóir do Ghaillimh Thiar - Maigh Eo Theas. Tá an tiomantas i leith Forbairt Réigiúnach caite uaidh ag an Rialtas.
"Mhaígh Rialtas Fhianna Fáil - Fine Gael ag an am gur cuireadh Forbairt Réigiúnach mar chuid de na ranna rialtais, le ceist na forbartha neamhthomhaiste faoi chúram Aire shinsirigh.
"Ní raibh ann i mbunú na Roinne nua ach cur i gcéill mar níor tháinig aon cheann de na freagrachtaí nó an buiséad faoi réim na Roinne Ealaíon, Oidhreachta agus Gaeltachta.
"Seans go ndéanann an tAire Ring amach go bhfuil freagracht as forbairt réigiúnach faoi scáth a Roinne, ach go hoifigiúil níl sé. Cuireann easpa teidil in iúl gur cuma leis an rialtas faoi fhorbairt réigiúnach.
"Beidh dúshláin mhóra le sárú ag an Aire Ring, thar aon ní eile an athbhreithniú a bheas le déanamh ar chlár LEADER is SCIAP, forbairt cheart ar infrastruchtúr ar nós bóithre, iarnróid agus telechumarsáid sna ceantair tuaithe
"Ní mór dó troid a thabhairt chun bunseirbhísí ar nós sláinte, gardaí, oifigí poist agus seirbhisí rialtais i bpobail tuaithe a chaomhnú agus a mhéadú.
"Ach thar aon rud eile, an rud is tabhachtaí a bheas air a bhaint amach ná fostaíocht i gceantair tuaithe a chruthú. "Caithfidh sé brú ollmhór a chur ar fhorais Stáit a bhfuil cúram san earnáil seo acu, a chuid dhéanamh, na hacmhainí cearta a chur ar bun agus tosaíocht a thabhairt d'fhostaíocht i mbailte beaga is sráidbhailte faoin tuath.
"Níl muid ag iarraidh tuairiscí nó plasaithe eile le sean-ghealltainis an rialtais curtha chun tosaigh an athuair ar bhealach éagsúil. "Tá tiomantas don fhorbairt réigiúnach thomhaiste ag leibhéal an rialtais féin ag teastáil, le gach Aire ag glacadh páirte.Crioch//

Government Dumps Commitment to Regional Development – Ó Clochartaigh

Sinn Féin Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh has criticised the haphazard way the Government deals with regional development and rural Ireland. He highlighted the confusion that many at the coal face of regional development projects now feel with the departmental rejigging that is happening.

Speaking during a debate on the reorganisation of Government departments, the Galway West – South Mayo Senator says:

“The government has dumped it’s commitment to Regional Development.

“The inclusion of Regional Development as part of this Fine Gael - Fianna Fáil Government was hailed as a breakthrough, with the issue of unbalanced development throughout the State now under the auspices of a full Minister.

“However, the creation of the new Department was a cosmetic exercise only as none of the responsibilities or budgets were transferred into the Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht.

“Minister Ring may argue that ‘regional affairs’ is still within his brief, but officially, it is not. It has disappeared. The absence of a title indicates that the government no longer considers regional development a priority.

“Minister Ring will have substantial challenges to overcome, not least the reappraisal of the LEADER and SICAP programmes, the real development of infrastructure such as roads, rail and telecommunications in the regions. "He will have to fight hard to maintain and increase services in rural communities such as health, gardaí, post offices and government services.

“But the crucial thing he must push the government to deliver on is jobs in rural areas. He needs to put huge pressure on the state agencies with a remit in this area to step up to the plate, put proper resources in place and prioritise employment in rural towns and villages.

“We do not need to see any more re-hashing of already launched government policies or reports. We need commitment at cabinet level to balanced regional development which every Minister buys in to”.
