Sinn Féin supports medicinal cannabis relief for suffering patients - O'Reilly
Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Louise O'Reilly TD has outlined Sinn Féin's support for increasing access to medicinal cannabis.
Speaking today, Deputy O'Reilly said;
"Sinn Féin supports the use of medicinal cannabis by patients where medically recommended.
"We supported Deputy Gino Kenny's Bill at Second Stage and supported allowing it to go forward for further investigation and pre-legislative scrutiny.
"However, when the Health Committee investigated the legislation and on receipt of strong legal advice, it was obvious that this legislation was simply not fit for purpose. The report of the committee was laid before the Dáil as the opinion of the committee. The committee is recommending that the legislation not proceed.
“We will be looking at this issue throughout the Summer and will do whatever is needed to ensure people have access to medicinal cannabis if and when they need it, even if that means drafting new legislation.”
