Pearse Doherty TD welcomes CCPC’s study of Personal Contract Plans

17 July, 2017 - by Pearse Doherty TD

Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Finance Public Expenditure and Reform Pearse Doherty TD has welcomed the planned study of the use of Personal Contract Plans (PCPs) by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

Deputy Doherty said:

“This is the start, hopefully, of a process where consumers are fully protected when entering a PCP as they would under a normal credit agreement.

“There has been a lack of focus by the authorities and regulators in relation to hire purchases and this is an issue that we have raised with the Minister.

“We know for example that the Central Credit Register is now delayed because of the omission of these types of agreement.

“We welcome that planned study of the use of PCPs by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

“This study must be done quickly and concrete recommendations made so that this ongoing gap in consumer protection legislation can be sorted out once and for all.”
