Sinn Féin pledge support for nurses and public sector workers
Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on Health Pat Sheehan MLA and West Belfast MP Paul Maskey met with staff and trade union representatives from the Royal College of Nursing in Belfast and pledged Sinn Féin’s support for nurses and public sector workers.
Speaking after the meeting Pat Sheehan said:
“Today we met with staff and trade union representatives from the Royal College of Nursing to discuss the ongoing ‘Scrap The Cap’ campaign. Nurses, indeed all staff, are the HSC service’s greatest assets.
"Nurses deliver a high standard of care to the community in very challenging circumstances, day after day. They deserve a fair wage for their work."
Paul Maskey MP added: “Unfortunately the DUP support the Tory government in implementing austerity. The DUP’s first act in support of the Tory government was to vote for an effective cut to the wages of emergency and public service workers.
“Sinn Féin oppose austerity, and we will continue to defend frontline staff and campaign for adequate funding for our public services and our public sector workers."
