Concern over privatisation of local bus routes – Denise Mitchell TD

11 August, 2017 - by Denise Mitchell TD

Sinn Féin Dublin Bay North TD Denise Mitchell has expressed serious concern over news that 10% of Dublin Bus routes, including a number of local services, are to be privatised and run by a foreign for-profit company.

Teachta Mitchell said;

“This doesn't just raise serious concerns for commuters, but also for Dublin Bus workers. We all know from seeing the privatisation of vital transport services in other countries that private companies have one motivation and that is profit. The privatisation of these 24 routes raises the real fear of a reduction of services on routes that are loss-making.

“At the end of the day every citizen in this state has a right to access to local public transport. In the short term I'd ask the National Transport Authority to make a commitment that there will be no reduction in services along the routes involved, many of which provide vital links – such as the 17A which serves Beaumont Hospital and Dublin City University.”
