Liadh Ní Riada ag lorg cruinniú le Banc na hÉireann maidir le seirbhísí Gaeilge

31 August, 2017 - by Liadh Ní Riada MEP

Tá an Feisire eorpach de chuid Shinn Féin Liadh Ní Riada ag lorg cruinniú le Banc na hÉireann maidir le soláthar seirbhíse Gaeilge ina bhrainsí, ar líne agus ina mheaisíní bainc.

Dúirt Liadh Ní Riada:

“Chureas comhfhreagras chuig ardbhainistíocht Bainc na hÉireann inniu ag lorg cruinniú láithreach maidir lena sholáthar seirbhíse inar bpríomh teanga oifigiúla, ní amháin ina mheaidíní bainc, ach ina bhrainsí agus ar líne comh maith.

“Tá dualgas ar Banc na hÉireann freastal ar a chustaiméirí, agus táimse den tuairim gur cheart dóibh freastal orthu siúd a theastaíonn uathu a ngnó a dhéanamh trí mheán na Gaeilge.

“Tá dulagas ar seribhisí stáit agus comhlachtaí poiblí freastal ar cainteoirí Gaeilge agus sílim gur cheart é seo a mhéadú go dtí mór eagrachtaí náisiúnta a bhíonn ag freastal ar cuid mór den phobal.

“Tá na bainc sásta glacadh le cabhair an stáit agus le cúnamh ón gciste poiblí nuair atá siad i gcruachás. Ba chóir go mbeadh siad sásta freastal ar a ndualgaisí poiblí mar sin.

“Beidh mé ag iarriadh ar ardbhainistíocht Banc na hÉireann a cinneadh maidir le Gaeilge ar a measiní bainc a fhreaschuir, agus seirbhísí breise sa teanga a chuir ar fail céim ar chéim.”

Liadh Ní Riada seeks meeting with Bank of Ireland to discuss Irish Language services

Sinn Féin MEP Liadh Ní Riada is seeking a meeting with Bank of Ireland regarding its provision of services in Irish in its branches, online and via its ATMs.

Liadh Ní Riada said:

“I have written to senior management at Bank of Ireland today seeking a meeting to discuss the bank's provision of services in our first official language, not only in its system of ATMs, but also in branches and online.

“Bank of Ireland have an obligation to serve its customers, and I believe that this involves serving those who wish to do their business in Irish.

“State services and public companies have a statutory obligation to service Irish speakers and I feel that this needs to be extended to cover large, national organisations that serve a large section of the public.

“The banks were quick to accept the state’s assistance and public money when they were in trouble. They should be equally willing to meet the needs of the public.

“I will be demanding that Bank of Ireland reverses its decision regarding Irish language on its ATMs and that they work to provide a wider Irish language service on step by step basis.”
