Chaos and confusion in Brexit camp - O'Dowd
The British Government’s admission that significant differences remain with the EU over Brexit, again expose the chaos and confusion of the Tory negotiators, Sinn Féin Brexit spokesperson John O’Dowd has said.
The Upper Bann MP was speaking after the British Government’s Brexit Secretary said today that the two sides had ‘very different legal stances’ over the financial cost of leaving the EU.
“Every day of the negotiations seems to expose further chaos and confusion in the British Government camp as the reality of what they face conflicts with the fantasy they have been peddling for months,”
John O’Dowd commented.
“Their position papers with regard to Ireland were rubbished and now their costings of the divorce bill – another case of them trying to have their cake and eat it – have run into similar problems.
“That has been symptomatic of the entire Brexit debacle and is yet more evidence that the only way to protect Irish interests is for special status enabling the North to remain within the EU.”
