DUP call nothing short of hypocrisy - Dillon
Sinn Féin MLA Linda Dillon has said a call from the DUP to suspend funding to Relatives for Justice is nothing short of rank hypocrisy.
The party’s victims spokesperson said:
“Relatives for Justice (RFJ) supports victims and survivors where requested and provide a valuable service to families seeking truth and justice for loved ones killed in the conflict.
“They do so in a professional, objective and non-political way.
“The call from Emma Little-Pengelly to suspend public funding to Relatives for Justice because they attended the anniversary mass of Gerard and Martin Harte and Brian Mullin is nothing short of rank hypocrisy.
“The DUP was endorsed during the Westminster election campaign by a group, which represents loyalist paramilitaries, just days after the UDA murdered Colin Horner in a Bangor car park in front of a three-year-old child.
“Alongside the British government the DUP have blocked access to truth to families by refusing to implement the legacy mechanisms agreed at Stormont House to provide those bereaved with a process of truth recovery and they have refused to release the money requested by Lord Chief Justice for coroner’s inquests.
“The veto on disclosure to families must end and funds must be released to the Lord Chief Justice in order to carry out legacy inquests.”
