Delivery of rights for all needed for deal - O'Neill
Sinn Féin Leader in the North Michelle O’Neill has said a deal can be done to restore the political institutions on the basis of rights for all citizens.
Speaking after a series of bilateral meetings with the other parties today Michelle O’Neill said:
“I made it clear in meetings with the other parties that for a sustainable and inclusive Executive to work it must be on the basis of the Good Friday Agreement.
“That requires Executive policies based on equality and respect and an end to the denial of rights, such as language rights, marriage rights and the right to a coroner’s inquest.
“Sinn Féin remains committed to making the political institutions work.
“We still have a mountain to climb but I believe a deal can be done. There is a small window to get the job done and it will require a concerted effort by all the parties and the two governments.
“We need to see delivery, we need to see outstanding agreements implemented, we need to see rights delivered for all citizens.
“That’s the basis to form a sustainable Executive, and one that can withstand the test of time.”
