McGuigan welcomes launch of Ulster Canal Greenway Project
Sinn Féin MLA Phillip McGuigan has welcomed the launch of the Ulster Canal Greenway project.
The party’s infrastructure spokesperson said:
“The launch of the Ulster Canal Greenway project, which will open up the disused Ulster Canal through Counties Monaghan and Armagh for active travel purposes is to be welcomed.
“The Ulster Canal Greenway project received €4.95 million from the EU Interreg fund and is a positive example of what European Union funding can achieve.
“Brexit will jeopardise this funding and indeed with the uncertainty cross border initiatives projects like this, which have had positive effects on the island of Ireland, will come under threat.
“Greenway projects certainly have a positive effect on the local economy as well as contributing to active and sustainable transport. The development of these will enhance the island of Ireland as a place that people want to live, visit and invest.
“We look forward to the project completing in 2020.”
