Senator Devine congratulates Lynn Boylan on gambling conference
A recent seminar hosted by Lynn Boylan MEP urged Ireland to 'remove the blinkers' when it came to gambling, and gave a harrowing insight to the dark world of gambling addiction.
Speaking on the conference, Seanad spokesperson for Health and Well being Senator Máire Devine said:
"Well done Lynn Boylan and all attendees in lifting the lid on Ireland's serious issue with gambling. The chase for 'free money' has thousands in its grip, thousands captured and devastated.
"The scale of advertising and online gambling is truly enormous. Online gambling must be considered in its own right , a modern phenomenon of addiction that should have its own classification.
"They have managed to enlist a new generation of youth by sublime and continuous bombardment on smart phones. Now is the time for us to legislate and regulate."
