John Brady TD speaks out after death of homeless man in Bray

21 September, 2017 - by John Brady TD

Sinn Féin TD for Wicklow John Brady has said that it is 'absolutely shameful' that another life has been lost on our streets as a result of the homelessness crisis.

Teachta Brady was reacting to news that a man died in the tent that he had been sleeping in Bray in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Speaking this afternoon, Teachta Brady said:

"I want to begin by expressing my sympathy to his partner, his family and his friends. This is an extremely difficult and upsetting time for them.

"Unfortunately and disgracefully, a person dying on our streets no longer comes as a shock.

"In recent weeks, a number of homeless people have needlessly died on our streets and in emergency accommodation settings.

"This is before we even approach winter time and much colder weather.

“There is no emergency accommodation in Wicklow. We have people sleeping in tents on Bray Head and we have people sleeping under the footbridge on the N11 road.

“The homeless crisis spiralled out of control a long time ago. While the local authority and local organisations are doing their best to provide for the homeless, Minister Murphy needs to provide dedicated emergency beds for homeless individuals and families in Wicklow.”
