Threats as well as flags need to be removed' - Ó Muilleoir

5 October, 2017 - by Máirtín Ó Muilleoir

Paramilitary threats against families and community workers in South Belfast should be removed along with UVF flags, Sinn Féin's Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has said.

The South Belfast MLA was speaking after the East Belfast Community Initiative (EBCI) announced that UVF flags would be removed from Cantrell Close where four Catholic families were recently forced from their homes by paramilitary threats.

"While the removal of the flags is welcome, what we really need to see is the removal of the threat to these families," he commented.

"It has also emerged that a threat has been made against a number of loyalist community workers and that is equally wrong and should be lifted immediately.

"There should be no place in this society for any form of sectarianism, intolerance or threats of violence."
