International Community must back dialogue between Catalonia and Spain – Adams
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has urged the Spanish government to “take up the offer of dialogue made by the Catalan government this evening”.
The Sinn Féin leader said:
“The dispute between the people of Catalonia and the Spanish state over independence will not be resolved by intransigence or threats.
“The Catalan President Carles Puigdemont has suspended its declaration of independence to allow for dialogue in the coming weeks.
“The only way to find a peaceful resolution is through dialogue and international mediation.
“I would urge the international community to directly engage with the Spanish and Catalan governments and seek to broker a mediation process to hammer out an agreement that is democratic and peaceful and avoids conflict.”
