McGuigan urges public to stay safe

16 October, 2017 - by Philip McGuigan

Sinn Féin’s infrastructure spokesperson Philip McGuigan has welcomed a move by the Electricity Network to have emergency crews, engineers and call handlers on stand-by following Storm Ophelia warnings.

The North Antrim MLA said:

“Following severe weather warnings including high winds of up to 80 miles per hour there is a possibility that there will be power outages especially in exposed and coastal locations.

“I would advise members of the public to report any damage to poles or electricity lines immediately and to keep away.

“Anyone who experiences power outages should report the fault online at or by calling the Customer Helpline on 03457 643 643. Regular updates will also be on their twitter feed @NIElectricity.

“I urge everyone not to take chances today. If possible they should stay at home and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.”
